New Stepper Motor Driver

Post by Vyckaks » Tue Jun 19, 2018 2:04 pm

Hi I just found stepper driver from ST Microelectronics EVALSP820-XS 1/256 step microstepping adjustable with jumpers not SPI. Could be good alternative for TMC2130.

they are more expensive than the clones.
They have only 256 steps.
Are they quiet?
some intelligence?
then you can use tmc2100

They are slightly cheaper then Trinamic TMC2130. Both of them are 1/256 step so i`m guessing should be quiet. Trinamic can be controlled via SPI on the fly where STSPIN820 using jumpers same as DRV8825.

More micro steps != silent

You can't compare them with the 2130

it like comparing a vw golf with a ferrari

the 2130 has a lot more features

You maybe can compare the 2100 with them.

the reason the tmc are quiet ist that they have stealthChop / if you use them with spreadCycle they are not quieter as the A49xx

Sorry i`m just getting in to 3d printers and just read more about stealth chop and yes ST`s do not have any off that but i think is still good thing whit 256 micro steps.
