Dolly Part List Help

Post by awokenapprentice » Sun Dec 17, 2017 8:38 pm

Hello friends. My son and I are jumping into the exciting world of 3D printing and we would really like to get started with the "Cheapest possible Prusa". We are thrilled to see such a great guide and are ready to start ordering parts. There seems to be quite a bit of choice still involved in the part list given, i.e. when we navigate to Aliexpress links we are still presented with several options for a specific part. I am sure this is by design, but we could use help in narrowing down the choices. Does anyone have a part cart that could be shared, especially for electronics (e.g. boards and cords)? Thanks in advance.

Yeah the links are to search pages because Aliexpress prices and listings are pretty volatile. You can save some hassle by getting an electronics kit, here's one that has boards, endstops, motor drivers, LCD, and heated bed:
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Reprap- ... 75832.html

A good thing to try to do on Aliexpress orders is to buy as much as possible from the same store so they ship together. I've found that buying small, cheap things that get shipped separately is the best way to get stuck waiting over a month for an item. The above seller's store has most if not all of what you'll need (they're nobody special, just happen to have that kit):
https://www.aliexpress.com/store/1200448
For the remainder of electronic components, this store has the following:
Thermistors
https://www.aliexpress.com/store/produc ... 26585.html
Motor cables (if your motors come with short cables)
https://www.aliexpress.com/store/produc ... 76594.html
V6 clone hotend with fan and thermistor
https://www.aliexpress.com/store/produc ... 06813.html
50mm radial blower fan
https://www.aliexpress.com/store/produc ... 56113.html

For electronic parts, that would just leave motors, power supply, and IEC socket/rocker switch (optional, but nice to have a power button.)

Let us know if you need a hand finding any other parts!

Also requisite Dolly disclaimer: A lot of people have built them and realized they wanted to make upgrades right away. If you search Dolly on this forum there's lots of discussion about alternative ways to build them, though of course it won't be quite as easy to follow along with the build video if you swap components.

Edit: Fixed hotend link and added radial fan.

Thanks Chumm,

This is a huge boost. We will take the advice on the kit and upgrades, and definitely will be back if (ok. when) more questions come up.

cheers

Hi AA,

Welcome to the forum! A number of us have built Dollys, so feel free to tap us for hints and advice. In addition to Chumm's updated parts list, search here for information about updated printed parts; some of them have been improved since Tom's original STLs were released.

https://toms3d.org/2017/02/23/building- ... sa-i3-mk2/

All the urls are missing for the dolly page... just when I finished making my wooden version and was about to print the plastic version of the clone.

That is daunting... to say the least.
I want the PRUSA MK3 CONTROLS FEATURES and its 200mm x 300mm hot bed
and the MARK 2 enclosure, Bowden duel j-heads attached to bondtech extruders
or something geared 7:1 so 3mm filament is still an option. PM Please

Just went to the page. Yup. Something appears to not be right.

That's the link to the parts download. The assembly follows the Mk2 ver 1.06 from Prusa's site:

Give a shout if there is anything else you need.
