Gaps between perimeter and top solid infill

Post by Jan19998 » Sun Oct 07, 2018 9:26 pm

I have the following problem with my Anet A8. There are gaps around but mostly on the right of holes. They are between the perimeter and the top solid infill. Another thing i have found out is that this problem only occurs at a height of up to 5mm. I think it is a mechanical problem but i have no idea what it could be.

Maybe someone can help me?

Line Width 0,48mm
Flow 90%
Filament Diameter 1,734mm

I had that same problem, my printer was under extruding. There are some videos on YouTube that can show you how to fix it. It’s a simple recalibration here is a link https://youtu.be/YUPfBJz3I6Y

Hi Jan,

Line width of 0.48 is a little unusual. Is there a reason you did not stick with 0.4? In addition, what have you set your outer wall thickness to? It is possible to create a setup that can't be followed because the math doesn't work (E.G.: how do I create a 0.8 thick wall if my line setting is at 0.48?).

I thought there is a rule of thumb that you put your line width on 120% of the nozzle size. Outer wall thickness is the same as line width.

Changed a few settings. Gone to .4mm line width and changed speeds a little bit and printed again.

Line Width .4mm
Flow 90%
Filament 1,745mm

Hi Jan,

Looks a little better, but I still see the gap. A nozzle can print lines much smaller than the hole diameter. For example, I usually print with a 0.4mm nozzle at 0.1mm. The point I was trying to make was that the shell thickness should be divisible by the line width. If it isn't, the slicer may round the values undesireably, causing gaps.

One more suggestion: add a second or third layer to your walls. Another issue with slicing is that the outside edge of a surface is calculated as a line with no thickness. When the plastic is extruded, it may be placed outside that line, inside that line, or on that line. Which method is used is up to the program and is sometimes controllable. I haven't looked for it in Cura, but I bet it's there.

Printed again with 100% flow, gaps are still there. Little bit of overextrusion now.

But what could be the mechanical problem? I know it's difficult remotly but maybe someone has another idea.

i print with a line with of 0.5
then with 0.48 which is often the standard setting i had only bad results.
which slicer are you using?
can you set the outline overlap ?
i have set it to 21% and it is fine for me / otherwise my print looks as yours.

in slic3r i have set 25%

i use cura. the overlap is set to 30% each.

but it has to be a mechanical problem i'm on this problem for a few month and nothing that i changed in cura has helped.
