I ordered a set for my 2nd i3 based printer
I upgraded the first to a prusa mk3 frame but it is still crap.
When some money is available for fun projects i will upgrade this one too.

Nice find, MV. Any previous experience with these rails? I'm concerned about rails that might be little or no improvement over rods.

Also, with the frame you built, how rigid is it? Would gussets help? I've thought about building one with slotted rails and corner reinforcements.

I will find out ;-)

The frame is build with:

2x
https://www.obi.de/profile/vierkantrohr ... /p/8749921
6x
https://www.obi.de/profile/xd-rohrverbi ... /p/8748915
2x
https://www.obi.de/profile/xd-rohrverbi ... /p/8748923
an it is very stable. I can't bend it in any direction.
these parts are for making tables or shelfs

first i wanted to build one with slotted extrusion, but they are a lot more expensive.
And with closed extrusions it will not be so dirty over time ...

I designed some brackets for the printed rubber feet which maybe stabilize it too.

Maybe this:

are an option for the middle / then the rails have 3 places to be screwed on.

I've got a 'kind of' Dolly i3 Mk2 build printer.

I'm just wondering what axes these linear rails would be most useful in? X and Y?

Also, does anyone have any links to an i3 build that uses them? Am interested to find out if they have a beneficial effect. I'm guessing not as I imagine Prusa would have gone for this solution if they were better?

The power of using linear rails is that they have so little play; rods and linear bearings wobble a bit and can introduce artifacts in a print. Prusa most likely doesn't use them because they are far more expensive. In addition, I think that the frame must be VERY rigid to take advantage of linear rails. That's what MV is building with the aluminum extrusion.

Might as well bought the Hooney for the slides! (Yeah, I saw Angus' video on that disaster).

Sweet! How do they feel? I've been paralyzed by the number of "brands" and just don't want to pull the trigger on a bad set.
