Cura - I need help with modifying Gcode

Post by Dragon2781 » Fri Sep 07, 2018 1:41 pm

Hi guys,
I need help from somebody who can handle Gcode.

I want to make Timelapse videos by moving the printhead to a specific location after every layer and physically pressing a remote shutter of my camera.

In Cura it is possible to use the 'Post processing > Modify G-code' function to Find & Replace something in the Gcode.
So I want to find the Z movement (after every layer is done) and add a movement of X and Y to a value.

Can somebody help me please?

Hi Dragon,

Welcome to the forum. This could be done in a text editor without Cura. Search for G0 * z * (* represents a wildcard). Then insert a command G0 x(some number) y(some number) followed by G4 P(number in milliseconds) and then another G0 to move the bed back.

Hi Stefan,

thank you for your answer. I tried it but I have some problems.
1st Cura saves the file as a .gcode.gz . I can't open this in Notepad++ it's all cryptic.
2nd I saved the file as a gcode, so I can open it in Notepad++ but I can not find a line G0 *z* only G0 *x* or *y*.

Code: Select all

;TIME_ELAPSED:35.892532
;LAYER:2
G0 F7200 X103.995 Y101.944 Z0.4
what a usual Layer change GCode generated by Cura looks like

A movement command might also be a G1, but I betcha those z movements use G0 as Richard showed.
