My Zmorph thermistors have stoped working

Post by david115599 » Tue Jul 18, 2017 4:59 am

ON my Zmorph 2.0SX the thermistors have stopped working and i have replaced them as well as checked all the connections to the control board but when i look on the temp monitor it says that one side of the heater block is at 27C and the other is at 357C and neither of these numbers change if i heat the extruder with a heat gun. Also i have tried unplugging the thermistors and nothing has changed.

Also Zmorph should invest in some better void stickers that are harder to remove without damaging them.

What is the old one look like and did you check if they use 100k thermistors not type-K thermocouple or PT100?

Edit : so it's Sunbeam 2.0 which is Smoothieware based so that should be 100k thermistors I guess.

Since you didn't make change to any config and I guess you plug it in the same port as before, I will check the wire and connector to see if it connect properly.

If you switch the thermistors cable, does it show the same value?
For example try to switch thermistors connectors between heated bed and hotend to see if the hot end channel read the temp correctly and heated bed channel show reading problem, just try to bump up the temp a bit and see if thermistors reading is good.(bump the temp on hotend should show temp on heated bed rise up and vice versa)

If switching thermistors show that hotend channel work then it might be thermistors or connectors problem.
If hotend channel still show problem it might be the board itself.

Or if you have other spare thermistors then you might try other one too, just make sure that you crimp the connectors good.

I have figured out that it is definitely the control board. Do you by any chance know where i can get a sunbeam 2.0 board?.

Not sure, hbot3d site shop link is dead.

If you willing to change to other board then Smoothieboard V1.1 is not bad, but I'm not sure if that flat cable for panel can use with it(might need to make an adapter)
or just buy another Full graphic LCD for cheap.

Smoothieboard V2 still not release yet.
DuetWifi is nice too but the price is quite high.
Cohesion3D board is good too.

Just make sure that the problem is the board itself and nothing else because when thermistors show 357C usually mean thermistors is broke, or maybe the board I don't know.

I now the board itself is the problem because I have a printrboard hooked up as a secondary controller just to control the extruder temp. The reson I don't just use it is because it can't provide enough power. I had to wire the bed and extruder power together to get it to break 150 and the even if only got to 180, which is enough to print but very slowly.
The reason I want the original board is because I don't want it to look like I voided the warranty.

Did you wire the printrboard with 24V?(I see you connect cable from ATX power supply so I assume you use 12V)
The reason that board can't get to print temp probably because you use 12V on it and Zmorph is using 24V by default so hotend heater have higher resistance than 12V heater.
I think printrboard can't use 24V, I might be wrong.

Also if the printer is still under warranty why not contact Zmorph to see if you can get replacement board.
